SlideShare---The Sharing Platform

Last week we used skype and invited a guest speaker to show us her project, and it was really interesting to me because I didn’t have this experience in Taiwan. I posted on my facebook and told my friends about the experience. Most of my friends felt very interesting that we could use skype to do a presentation in class.

Slideshare is a sharing platform where you can put your documents on the Internet. Individuals and organizations upload documents to SlideShare to share ideas, and documents can be downloaded if people find something that interests them. It can be used as an educational material as well. When I found this web 2.0 tool, I thought that maybe our guest speaker can put her powerpoint on slideshare and Dr. Crawford did not have to change the slide for us. Moreover, teachers can put their documents on slideshare, and students can download it if they want. It is really convenient for both teachers and students.

Something that you can do on Slideshare (Extract from the website)
1. Upload presentations publicly or privately
2. Download presentations on any topic and reuse or remix
3. Embed on blogs, websites, company intranets
4. Share on Twitter, Facebook, LinkedIn
5. Zipcast: free, no download, 1 click web meetings
6. Leadshare: generate business leads with your presentations, documents, pdfs, videos
7. Slidecast: sync mp3 audio with slides to create a webinar
8. Embed YouTube videos inside SlideShare presentations
9. Use SlideShare PRO for premium features like branded channels, analytics, ad free pages etc

Where to find the interesting tool?

  1. hey irene! that's really cool. This program would definitely have been good to use in class last week so Dr. S wouldn't be running around changing slides :) I did go to the website. The only concern I would have is because it is a public website, and all the presentations would be shared...I wouldn't want to put names of people, places or anything like that in a slide for the whole public to see. I'm sure we could find some presentations on there to use in the clasroom as well! great find!

  2. I have never heard of SlideShare before, but it looks really interesting! I would definitely be interested in using this program in my classroom. I think it could help students actively engage in a lesson. Thanks for sharing!

  3. I think this would be a great tool for students to create their own webinars. I didn't sign up for it, but I was wondering if multiple people could edit their slides online? If not, it would be convenient for students to collaborate and share with each other via the web. They could simply post their slideshare to their class blog (if there is a blog involved in class).

  4. Thanks Irene! I will do that next time - at least I will check this out. The comments above about presentations being very "public" are a general concern and would need to be addressed but seems like a really useful online tool. Glad you followed up our experience with a very useful tool to consider. Thank you!
